Hey Guys, I do have a clymers manual, but my question isntSafety Valves covered in it. Palmers for sure, but I dont have that"Bible" yet. So bear with me here... I have a set of Factory HD replacement 1964 Panhead heads, bosses present, but undrilled for the outside oilers and set up to be ran on a 49. I know they need the seats removed and new installed, but the money is tight and its not going be my main ride. I would like to get it running and in 2 seasons, have the seats done right. So this fix is temp and intended for less that 1200 miles (Yeah, I know I know). As they are now, with fresh lapped seats, I plan on turning out spacers outta A2 (and flame harden them) to place under the lower collar and on top of the valve guide to bring the compressed spring hight back to spec. The installed valve spring target hight is to be 1.375". Balance Valves So as of now here where its sets... Rear exhaust is at 1.460 (0.085" spacer) Rear intake is at 1.450 (0.075" spacer) Front exhaust is at 1.460 (0.085" spacer) Front intake is at 1.440 (0.065" spacer) In only seen these spacers sold as thick as 0.030". My question is.. Will the hight of the valve stem, due to the valve setting deeper into the head, cause bad things to happen due to the area of the stem of the rocker arm will now ride? Its not going to be center, but will ride on the high side of the stems crown, or to the outside or the stem. I know I may get a few "pimples" in the tins so Im going to watch for that. Cast Steel Valves But what other stresses are going to happen? I dont want to do anything that could lead to the fracture of the head castings... Thanks for hanging in there..
